Village Communication on Highways
The Parish Council wanted to bring you up to date following concerns raised by villagers relating to the speed of traffic going through our village. In particular, those living and working on Stratford Road and Friday Street find it difficult to cross the road safely and get in and out of driveways.
School Children in the village have to be escorted by their parents to reach the bus stop due to the speed of traffic.
Drivers coming from Church Street or Evesham Road struggle to manoeuvre due to cars moving too fast.
What we are doing and Progress
- A small subcommittee of the PC has been formed; members met last week with Gloucestershire Highways and the Police enforcement team. The Police Enforcement team will be here in the village before the end of July, conducting speed checks in various parts of the village. We have also arranged for a speed check cable to be installed on Stratford Road to provide us with a set of speed data. Some of you may have seen a small team of villagers gathering some data.
- We are also trying to get some training for the volunteers who have kindly put their names forward to help. This training will be undertaken by Speed Watch, but we have to be patient; trainers are in short supply, and there is likely to be a delay.
- We have also requested improvements to the Honeybourne/ Weston Crossroad, as traffic is fast moving and it’s already recognised as a hot spot by both the Police and Highways, and many of the villagers encounter it daily. Gloucestershire Highways have agreed to improve this area in the new Financial Year by improving signage and installing rumble strips on all the roads leading to the crossroads. As any other improvements are not affordable, we believe this is a start.
