Following consultation with Weston sub Edge residents, the Parish Council has installed CCTV in the village, specifically to deter criminal activity. We have warning signs at all entrances to Weston sub Edge and cameras providing coverage at key locations throughout the village.
The CCTV system is latest generation technology and includes Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) as well as high definition coverage 24 hours a day.
The Parish Council has received generous funding support through the Safer Streets initiative administered via the Office of the Police & Crime Commissioner for Gloucestershire Constabulary.
The primary purpose of our investment in CCTV is to deter criminal activity and to keep our residents safe. It will also provide evidence to Gloucestershire Police, in the event that criminal activity does take place, to assist with the apprehension of offenders.
The Parish Council anticipates that CCTV coverage will, in most instances, only be made available directly to Gloucestershire Constabulary, who also have the ability to monitor our cameras remotely. All crime should be reported to the Police and they will access the footage if required.
In exceptional circumstances, residents may make a request for CCTV footage and should do so only with reference to the ‘Weston sub Edge CCTV Policy’, click here. There is a small charge for a data request to be considered.
Neighbourhood Watch continues to operate in parallel and is complementary to CCTV cameras. We encourage residents to continue to support Neighbourhood Watch.
