North Cotswold U3A
Welcome to the North Cotswold U3A
The Third Age Trust was developed from an organisation in France. A public meeting was held in Cambridge in 1981 from which a similar organisation capable of organising their own activities and providing the skill and expertise needed was developed. The first age is learning at school., the second is learning at work and the third age is when that is over and you can learn what ever you like.
Who are we?
We are local people like you living in the North Cotswolds. Begun in 1996 we now have over 30 interest groups and 300 members drawn from towns as far apart as Shipston on Stour, Blockley, Moreton in Marsh, Chipping Campden, Broadway, Evesham, Stow on the Wold and Winchcombe and the many villages within this area including Weston-sub-Edge. We are also members of the Cotswold Link network of local U3A’s
Our Aims
To provide a framework so that lives can be enriched as we extend old skills, find new interests and make new friends while sharing the knowledge, skill and expertise of our members. All are most welcome and no academic qualifications are needed.
How our U3A works
We hold regular monthly open meetings at Willersey Village Hall together with over 30 smaller interest groups who hold their own meetings at various village halls within the area and at members homes.
Meetings are held during the day. We publish a regular Newletter containing the latest news, updates and group information and forthcoming events together with all contact details.
When you have been with us for a while and if you have expertise in any subject and would be willing to share it please let us know. You may wish to help with running a group or becoming part of the (Committee) where help is always welcome.
Would you like to join us?
If so please contact our Membership Secretary via our contact page. The annual membership fee payable from the 1st September is £12 per individual or £22 for two people living at the same address no matter how many groups you belong to. The amount when joining halfway through our year between 1st March to 31st August in any year is £8 and £14 respectively. Each group also has a fee which varies dependent on the particular venue each time you attend a Group session.
There are some groups that meet in the WsE Village Hall
The History Group meets from 10am to 12.00 noon on Tuesdays the 1st week of the month.
If you are interested in joining please ring Dr. David Pegg 01386 858232. More details here.
The New Age Curling Group meet from 10.00am to 12.00 noon on the 4th Monday of the month. This is a sport that is played with ‘stones’ which have to be sent from one end of the court to a target at the other end. Scoring is determined by the number of stones closest to the centre of this target. It is usually played in teams of four, two teams to each set of stones. If you are interested in joining this group please contact Daphne Bell on 01386 840182. More details here.
There are many other groups covering a large range on interests held at various locations around the North Cotswolds.
