Cotswold Tree Warden Group Events
The Cotswold Tree Warden Group comprises Tree Wardens, representing the Towns and Parishes within the Cotswold District Council area, as well as other interested parties in and adjacent to the Cotswolds It is run by a committee of volunteers.
The group organises training through both written sources and practical work to assist Tree Wardens to fulfil their role in the community. Visits and walks are also arranged and are hopefully both a source of pleasure and informative.
They run a number of events throughout the year some of which are listed below:
Saturday 6th February 2016 Coppicing and hedgelaying
Another opportunity to experience this practical skill. Get the satisfaction of seeing an end result like the one shown below from the course held in February 2015.
Our training day will consist of two elements. Firstly we will undertake some coppicing to obtain supplies for use in part two, hedgelaying. Training will be undertaken by Mike Hartnell. There is a charge, payable on the day, of £5 for Tree Wardens and £10 for other attendees. We need to arrive in time for a 10 a.m. start. Please bring a packed lunch.
The venues for the activity are as follows:

Wednesday 2nd March 2016 Orchard Training, Barton House Orchard, Cirencester
We have re-scheduled the training which had to be cancelled in 2015. Dave Kaspar will once again lead the session at Barton House Orchard. Our theme is “Orchards and longevity”. After an indoor talk, we will move into the orchard for a short introduction to pruning and maintaining orchard trees for those without previous experience. Then we propose working on an old ‘Catshead’ apple tree, as well as pruning the prolific ‘Newton’s Wonder’ apple tree to help maintain its productivity. The training event costs are subsidised by CTWG funds but there is also a £10 charge for each attendee (pay on the day). Bring a packed lunch and wear suitable clothing, also if you have tools you think of use (secateurs, loppers, etc), please bring these too.
Thursday 14th April 2016 Joint meeting with the RFS – Illustrated talks – Geoff March entitled Scenes from an Arboricultural Consultant’s life. Barrie Wellington and Mike Hartnell will give a presentation on Trees from Nursery to Planting and Management.
