About the Village Bar

Becky White is the village bar licensee operating under an occupational licence from the Village Hall Trustees (charity no. 267532) who are the Licensors.

The purpose of the Bar is to provide a relaxing and safe environment for the residents and visitors to Weston-sub-Edge. All are  welcome and you do not need to be a “club member” to use the bar amenities.

The Licensors have a premises licence which covers the total properties held in trust both inside and outside.

Children are welcome, but we do ask that they are supervised at all times especially as there is an unfenced brook, trees, fire escape and other objects which may seem attractive pieces of play equipment. Also, we ask parents to ensure children are not in the bar area after 9pm.  Children 12 and under are excluded from using the full sized snooker table and those over12 can only play when supervised full time by an adult (over 18).

The licensees run the bar as their own business and are entitled to exclude anyone they feel is disruptive. The Trustees will totally support any decisions they make.

The Village Hall Charity does take a small income from the bar by charging rent for the use of the premises and a small percentage of the turnover.   This is important revenue that enables the Hall to continue to function in providing the many activities for the community as well as allowing villagers to rent the hall for a modest fee. You are supporting the Hall charity by using the Village Bar.

Local Plan Public Consultation

Release date: 16 January 2015

A Local Plan consultation document detailing the Cotswold District’s development strategy, proposed site allocations and strategic policies is being made available for public comment from Friday 16 January to Friday 27 February 2015.

During this period, the public will be able to view the document online (opens in a new window); hard copies will also be available at Cotswold District Council’s Trinity Road headquarters and Moreton Area Centre office, as well as public libraries across the District. Each Town and Parish Council will also have copies and the public can contact any of them if they wish to view the document.

Cotswold District Council is also hosting two drop-in sessions for residents to view proposals and discuss them with the Forward Planning team – Wednesday 28 January at the Council HQ, Trinity Road, Cirencester and Thursday 29 January at the Council’s Moreton Area Centre in Moreton-in-Marsh.  Both sessions will run from 2 pm to 6.30 pm.

Cllr Nick Parsons, the CDC Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Forward Planning, looks forward to the consultation period:

“The Local Plan will serve as a blueprint for development up until 2031 and we have been working closely with many stakeholders, including Town and Parish Councils, local communities and landowners to help define the best ways to meet demanding government guidelines across a range of issues, including: sustainable housing development; creating employment opportunities; infrastructure improvements; and safeguarding environmental assets..”

“We realise that some of the proposals will not always be popular, but we must comply with national policy to gain approval at the inspection stage. Ahead of the forthcoming public consultation, we have compiled a list of facts to help people understand the underlying issues, and this appears in the latest edition of CDC’s Cotswold News magazine which was delivered to all households in the district during the first half of December 2014 and is now also available on our website. Additionally, we have produced a leaflet which focuses specifically on proposals for the Cirencester area, and this has been distributed recently to over 12,000 homes. We very much hope that the drop-in sessions will also enable our planners to explain the rationale behind the Local Plan and to consider and discuss alternative suggestions which the public may wish to raise.”

How to comment during the consultation

The most effective and direct way to provide comments will be via the online bespoke system on the CDC website – at www.cotswold.gov.uk/go/ForwardPlanning   – which will be running during the consultation period.  We are aware that some people may find this difficult for a variety of reasons, including poor Broadband connections, and the Council will accept input by letter (to Local Plan, Forward Planning Team, Cotswold District Council, Trinity Rd, Cirencester GL7 1 PX) or by email (to localplan@cotswold.gov.uk)   We cannot guarantee, however, that comments sent to us by letter or email will always be correctly allocated or interpreted.  Copies of the draft Plan will be available for inspection or purchase (£5 per copy) at the Council’s Trinity Road office and the Moreton Area Centre. The document will also be available to view in hard copy at local libraries.

Bonfire Night Advice

Having your own Bonfire Night party or celebrating with family and friends can be great fun, but by far the safest way to enjoy these seasonal activities is to attend a professionally organised event. If, however, you are holding your own fireworks party, please don’t put your family and friends at risk.

Always remember to follow the Firework Code:

•       Only buy fireworks marked BS 7114.
•       Don’t drink alcohol if setting off fireworks.
•       Keep fireworks in a closed box.
•       Follow the instructions on each firework.
•       Light them at arm’s length, using a taper.
•       Stand well back.
•       Never go near a firework that has been lit. Even if it hasn’t gone off, it could still explode.
•       Never put fireworks in your pocket or throw them.
•       Always supervise children around fireworks.
•       Light sparklers one at a time and wear gloves.
•       Never give sparklers to a child under five.
•       Keep pets indoors.

Please make sure that your children do not have access to fireworks and that they act responsibly with sparklers.

Police are responsible for enforcing regulations about the use and possession of fireworks.

It is illegal to:

•       Have or use adult fireworks if you’re under the age of 18. Adult fireworks are any firework except for a cap, cracker snap, novelty match, party popper, serpent, sparkler or throw-down.
•       Set off fireworks between 11pm and 7am. There are different arrangements for special occasions like Guy Fawkes Night (midnight), Diwali, New Year’s Eve and Chinese New Year (1am).
•       Have professional fireworks without a licence.
•       Sell fireworks without a licence.
